Adventures in nature, music, and robots

I'm a naturalist. I manage an old growth forest. I like mountains. I used to play bassI have an awesome dog and even awesomer wife and a most excellent baby. I travel the desert, mountains, coast, temperate rainforests, chapparral, monadocks, and even cities when I can. I won't let those robots defeat me (or you). I like non-profits. I LOVE chocolate. I like doing nerdy stuff like measuring trees. This is an account of my adventures in these likes (and dislikes).

Ice climbing and hiking in GA- 1.17.09

After having the coldest temp's in a decade (11F at my house with 0F windchill), the crew and I decided to go searching for frozen waterfalls in the North Georgia mountains. We found plenty of ice and realized that winter hiking isn't so bad after all.

Yes, there is (good) ice climbing in Georgia. This road cut at Hogpen Gap sees no sunlight in winter and has a constant drip that puts layer upon layer of ice on the wall from October to April (or later...)
