We parked at the Russell Bridge trailhead just on the SC side of hwy 28 on the Chattooga River. Find directions here.
This trail goes along the side of the Chattooga River with an amazing canopy of White Pines well over 100' tall and probably 12' circumference. There are signs of dead hemlocks from HWA as well.

So Ophie comes back now and you don't have to chase her?
She still runs around a lot, but in the woods she comes back to check in on me every few minutes... she's getting better
